Custom & Special Tours

A typical happy tour groupFamily travel to Alaska is among the most popular ways families today spend quality time together. I've had families of five with father, mother and three children and extended families of 14 with grandparents. Arrangements vary from five days along the Dalton Highway in June, or five days in Fairbanks in March, to a week in July from Denali Park to the Kenai. The options are varied.

Some families prefer to join all or part of a scheduled group. Some prefer a "family only" option. A discussion of wishes and needs with me is the best way to being plans.

Affinity groups have been an important part of NatureAlaska Tours program since 1981. The travel programs of nature centers, natural history museums, zoos, Audubon birding clubs, adventure groups are a specialty.

The scheduled groups in June and August offer a good way for groups to avoid the minimum group size needs while keeping the costs reasonable. Other affinity groups prefer a custom itinerary which we make work as well. July is a good month for that.

Photography for nature and wildlife - with a family history of professional photographers, those moments of "sweet light" for Kodak moments is a personal favorite of mine. With my background in the wildlife sciences and as a licensed wildlife guide, I have the experience with wildlife and needs of photographers to pull together the best possible opportunities.

  • Nature and landscape photographers have a wide window of the year from northern lights in March to green arctic tundra and mountain glaciers in the summer to autumns' splendid colors.
  • Wildlife photographers have the best grizzly photo opportunity in Alaska along the arctic Dalton Highway in late Aug and into Sept. Unlike Denali Park where photographers are not allowed to have a personal guide with them for wildlife photography or hiking, my permits allow me to do so here as we wish.

This time of year the bears are in the alpine blueberry meadows and tundra is awash in purple, red and yellow with a background of green boreal forest.

Wilderness expeditions - Operations and logistics organized for film crews, field research camps and media. Specializing in arctic regions.
